CALCULATOR

Trap speed horsepower calculator

Estimate horsepower from your quarter-mile trap speed and the car's race weight (with driver). Uses the classic trap-speed formula: HP = weight × (mph ÷ 234)³.

—estimated horsepower (flywheel)

How it works

Trap speed is mostly a function of power-to-weight, so it is a better basis for a power estimate than elapsed time, which depends heavily on the launch. The formula is an approximation: drivetrain losses, gearing, aero and air density all move the real number. Treat the result as a ballpark, and compare cars with the same formula.

Holeshot reports your trap speed at the 1/4-mile mark automatically, along with 60 ft, 1/8 mile and the rest.
