100-200 km/h: the number that separates fast from very fast
Why 100-200 km/h is the favourite benchmark for high-performance cars, what good times look like, and how it is measured.
Why 100-200
0-100 km/h is dominated by traction: past a certain power level, most cars are limited by their tyres. 100-200 km/h is where power, aerodynamics and gearing show. Two cars with the same 0-100 can be seconds apart from 100 to 200.
Holeshot measures 100-200 inside a standing run (from the last time you crossed 100 to when you reach 200), and also as a rolling interval if you start from a cruise.
Rough reference points
Hot hatches: about 12–16 s. Fast sports sedans and coupés: about 8–11 s. Supercars: about 5–7 s. Hypercars: under 5 s.
FAQ
Where can I safely do 100-200?
Only on a closed course, a runway event or a track. It requires a lot of space: a quick car covers well over half a kilometre doing it.
